Hi this is Cindy, Smoaky's wife.
It's been a long week but David has made good progress. We got out of ICU on Wednesday and was still on the IV antibiotics and oxygen. Progress has been steady but slow because the infection was so bad. He was taken off of the IV antibiotics on Saturday and put on oral antibiotics. A first step toward going home. Those are working and the white count continues to go down. They did another chest x-ray and the lungs are getting clearer but still infection and need to loosen it up. The doctor took him off of the oxygen today to see how he would handle it.
He does fine as long as he is resting but he walked down the hall with one of the nurses and the stats dropped so we are not ready to be off of the oxygen yet. That is still the major concern and something that will take time and he will have to gradually ween off of it with continued breathing exercises and becoming more ambulatory.
I can't express to you enough how appreciative my family and I are for your well wishes and prayers.
Please continue to keep us in your prayers they are definitely working and he is getting better.
He's wanting to get on the laptop and his phone so I know we are headed in the right direction!!
I may have to turn the TV off as the Redskin game is making it harder for him to breathe :)! I will keep you all posted.
